the team continued rebuilding. Enter Krazy George. One performance
proved his worth. If ever there was a 12th man, George was it.
The highlight of the last game of the OSU season was the annual Bedlam
game with the hated Oklahoma Sooners. By now the fans were well-trained
by George to turn up the rivalry heat. OSU whipped OU soundly. Suddenly I
saw Krazy George on the shoulders of students being carried in a victory lap
across the field. Fear froze me as I watched him being swallowed up by the
mob. After all, dead men don’t pay commissions.
Next to Boone Pickens, who later gave the program many millions, it’s
hard to think of anyone else to have such an immediate impact on a program.
Yes, George has made me money, but money always goes away.
Memories are forever and George has given me and millions of sports fans
great ones.
